Men
vs Solent
Lose

Finally, Jefferson Williams's Malory have a shot at silverware this year with a 3-0 win over Solent in the National Cup, quarter final.

Having lost twice to Solent this season, the Eagles were naturally nervous and hesitant as they prepared for the game. Their normally exuberant warm up was muted in contrast with Solent who were expecting another humbling of the former champions. Coach Williams started with ex-GB international Kieron O'Malley and youngsters Leon Chambers and Jermaine Miles. The Eagles started comfortably with Chambers and Miles penetrating the Solent defence with relative ease while Solent's go-to hitter (Jacek Szafranski) struggled to score points with any regularity. Malory steamrollered Solent in just under 19 minutes, 25-15, to take the first set. Solent steadied themselves in set two nosing ahead for a period before Malory accelerated to take the set to 23. Set three followed a similar pattern, with Solent establishing a small lead before Malory levelled and then made a final push to close the set; 28-26.

Malory now face Wessex in the Cup semi-final on the first of March. This weekend sees the Eagles at home to Riga on Sunday. With only one victory this season, Riga are almost certainly destined to be relegated from the Super8 this year. With Malory just a couple of places above Riga, Williams's men really can't afford to lose this one. Come and support Malory Eagles this Sunday at Ernest Bevin College from 15.15 - Entry Free.
