vs SGTV Solent

Perhaps still in a celebratory mood following their Christmas party on Saturday night, Malory Eagles slowly eased into the National Cup quarter finals.

After a sedate warm-up, Malory allowed Division 1 Solent to stay level, the visitors briefly taking a lead to 15-12.  Stern sideline direction from coach Jefferson Williams ushered Malory level, neither side wanting to upset the balanced set by taking time-outs or substitutions.  After 23 minutes, Malory only just pipped Solent to take the set, 26-24 much to Williams' relief.

Sets two and three ran closer to form with consistent attacks from captain Luciano Pinter and steady blocking and defence from his groggy team-mates.  Becoming increasingly effective, Malory took the sets 25-17 & 25-15.  Malory will face fellow Londoners Lynx in the Cup quarter finals on February 5th.

This weekend, Malory face London Docklands in the Super 8s.  Although they finished 3rd  last year Docklands have struggled this season having lost several key players.  Currently bottom of the Super 8s without a win in seven games; they're not expected to provide much of a test for the Eagles.  3rd place Polonia will host top of the table Sheffield.  If Malory win, a Polonia loss could move them in to 3rd place, behind Leeds and Sheffield.
