Malory Eagles volleyball club

In accordance with Health & Safety legislation of 1974, this document sets out Malory Eagles volleyball club (MEvc) policies with respect to the Health & Safety of its members and staff (administrators and technical staff).  In general, this document sets out our commitment to:

  • provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our activities
  • consult with members and administrators on matters affecting their health and safety
  • provide and maintain safe equipment
  • ensure safe handling of any substances
  • provide information, instruction and supervision for members and staff
  • ensure all staff are competent to do their tasks and members are able to safely be involved in club activities
  • seek to prevent accidents
  • maintain safe and healthy conditions
  • review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals

The Welfare Officer (WO) has overall responsibility for Health & Safety matters but staff also have a responsibility to take care of their own H&S and that of their colleagues.  Staff and members are asked to:

  • co-operate with the WO (and any deputies thereof) on health and safety matters
  • not interfere with anything provided for health and safety within the club
  • take reasonable care of their own health and safety
  • report health and safety concerns to the WO

Staff and members will be consulted, as appropriate, on all matters concerning Health & Safety.  Further information about Health & Safety issues can be obtained from the WO.

Risk Assessment
The need for risk assessment will be determined by the WO and will be carried out by a competent person authorised by that officer.  The findings of such assessments will be reported back to the WO, who will take responsibility for determining, planning, resourcing and confirming any remedial action.

MEvc will ensure that:

  • equipment is purchased to meet requirements and with due regard to Health & Safety
  • equipment will be appropriately stored, deployed and maintained throughout its life

All new staff and members will receive an introduction to Health & Safety, either in written or presentation form.  Where the profile of Health & Safety issues changes, refresher induction will be provided.

No substances defined as hazardous to health according to the Control of Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 are expected to be introduced to the working environment.  If by exception, such substances are introduced, the WO should be informed so that appropriate policies can be applied.

All Health & Safety related incidents should be reported to the WO.  In addition, the WO may perform random checks for any aspect of Health & Safety (eg fire evacuation) in order to confirm that this policy is being followed.

Away Venues
While visiting non-MEvc venues, members and staff should follow the Health & Safety policy in place at that particular location.
